Validation

Validation is a short film by Kurt Kuenne . A fable about the magic of free parking. All about a parking attendant who gives his customers REAL validation — dispensing both free parking and free compliments.

It is only 16 minutes long but a brilliant short film with a roller coaster of emotions. It will make you smile, laugh and probably cry.. so grab a coffee and sit down and watch!

Never Give Up – Arthur and Yoga

I read about the story of Arthur Boorman and his amazing transformation in a <a href="http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2012/05/04/arthur-boorman-veteran-walks-again-yoga_n_1478847 viagra 10 pilule.html” target=”_blank”>Huffington Post article about his story.

Arthur was a paratrooper injured in the Gulf War and told by doctors he’d never walk unaided again. He had chronic back and knee problems caused by too many parachute jumps and over the years put on a lot of weight.. then he decided to try DDP yoga after reading about it in a magazine. This is a short film about his transformation.

This video was doing the rounds on social media a while ago and is just a reminder that incredible things are possible if you are prepared to persevere. You might need a tissue.. makes me cry every time I see it!

From Ego-System to Eco-System Economies: Otto Scharmer

I have mentioned Otto Scharmer in my previous blog post about U.Lab – Transforming, Business, Society and Self. The book on which the course is based is called Leading from the Emerging Future: From Ego-System to Eco-System Economics.

This is 40 minute talk  ‘From Ego-System to Eco-System Economies’ at Wisdom 2.0 Business 2014. www.wisdom2business.com where Otto goes into more depth about Theory U and its applications in business and other organisations.

What Causes Wellness?

I first heard of Sir Harry Burns when he was interviewed talking  about health and inequality as part of the U.Lab course I mentioned in a previous blog.

He was Chief Medical Officer of Scotland for many years and is now Professor of Global Heath Promotion at the University of Strathclyde.

When he retired from his post as Chief Medical Officer this article about him appeared  in The Guardian  ‘We need compassion, not judgments about poor people’

There are a lot of sound ideas in Harry’s TED talk and it’s very refreshing to hear such a senior doctor talk about these issues. He ends with a quote from a Los Angeles priest which sums it all up..

What we need in this world is a compassion that is in awe at the burdens the poor have to carry, rather than stand in judgment at the way they carry them.

Why some of us don’t have one true calling

A friend recommended this TED talk from Emilie Wapnick: Why some of us don’t have one true calling.

What do you want to be when you grow up? Well, if you’re not sure you want to do just one thing for the rest of your life, you’re not alone. In this illuminating talk, writer and artist Emilie Wapnick describes the kind of people she calls “multipotentialites” — who have a range of interests and jobs over one lifetime. Are you one?

I definitely am. This blog came about because I have always had many diverse interests and the blogs I already have on homeopathy, wild food and business didn’t fit with loads of other stuff I wanted to write about.  I’ve also done many jobs over the years.. waitress, research scientist, cheese packer, health food shop assistant, doctors receptionist, administrator, aeroplane cleaner, market stall trader, student, networker, wild food forager and homeopath to name a few.

Silly dancing and how to start a movement

I love this TED talk from Derek Sivers – How to start a movement. It is probably one of the shortest ever and definitely one of my all time favourites.

According to Dereks website his ‘Bragging Bio’ is…

Originally a professional musician and circus clown, Derek Sivers created CD Baby in 1998.It became the largest seller of independent music online, with $100M in sales for 150,000 musicians.

In 2008, Derek sold CD Baby for $22M, giving the proceeds to a charitable trust for music education.

He is a frequent speaker at the TED Conference, with over 5 million views of his talks.

Since 2011 he has published 34 books, including “Anything You Want” which shot to #1 on all of its Amazon categories.

Watch and enjoy.. and look out for some silly dancers..

U.Lab – Transforming Business, Society and Self

I am a huge fan of edx.org who offer free online courses on a range of subjects from many of the world’s top universities.

This course is one of them – U.Lab Transforming Business, Society and Self from Otto Scharmer, Adam Yukelson and the U.Lab team at MIT is by far the most powerful, inspiring and life changing thing I have ever done.

Some blurb from edx.org website about the course.. and a short video below with more info.Watch movie online The Transporter Refueled (2015)

We live in a time of disruptive change, one that requires a new collective leadership capacity. In this groundbreaking course, we invite you on a journey to see the world in new ways and practice a method that allows leaders, entire organizations, and larger social systems to connect with and actualize their highest future possibility.

In January 2015, 30,000 people from 190 countries enrolled in U.Lab. In an exit survey, 52% said it was “eye-opening”, while another 36% called it “life-changing”. U.Lab has inspired the first-known use of a Massive Online Open Course (MOOC) by a government as a platform for citizens to shape the issues that matter to them, it has been used in management teams of the world’s leading Non Governmental Organisations, and it is now being used in 42 Impact Hubs worldwide – by locally-rooted, globally connected communities of change makers to catalyze systemic change.

In the U.Lab you will learn Theory U, an approach to leading profound change that has been developed by action researchers at MIT, and practiced by leaders around the world, for over 20 years.

This started in September 2015 and runs for 8 weeks but the course material is archived when the course ends so you can jview it at any time.

U.Lab is based on the work of Otto Scharmer and many others. Find out more about Otto, Theory U and his work at http://www.ottoscharmer.com/

Shawn Achor – The Happy Secret To Better Work

We believe that we should work to be happy, but could that be backwards? In this fast-moving and entertaining TED talk, psychologist Shawn Achor argues that actually happiness inspires productivity and success.

Shawn is a great believer in positivity and appreciating what we have now rather than striving for bigger, better things in life. Have a look at his website Good Think Inc for more information and resources. Shawn has written two books and many articles about happiness and positive psychology. See some of these articles on Huffington Post.

Light and the double slit experiment

Science is far less clear cut than you might think and I will blog more about some scientific anomalies. Homeopathy is often criticised for being ‘unscientific’ as dilutions cannot be adequately explained by current scientific models.. but there are many things such as light, radiation and microwaves that do not always behave as you might expect.

Light is extraordinary for many reasons and can act as particles or waves.. or sometimes both. The double slit experiment is quite hard to explain to non-scientists but this is a fabulous Royal Institution video with Jim Al Khalili demonstrating what it is and why it cannot really be explained.
