December 2016

Yet again.. hub is the focus of much of my time, but really enjoying it and things are getting busier with more groups, meetings and workshops. We know Christmas is a bit of a strange time for many people so we have decided to stay open at our regular times throughout the festive period  for anyone who wants to join us.

I organised an inaugural Morsbag making group through the Settle Timebank. We had a really fun afternoon making sturdy shopping bags and some diverse conversation topics! More info at morsbags.com

Applied for a place on the next  RSA Community Leadership Programme .. would be a brilliant opportunity to get involved so we shall see…fingers and toes crossed!

Helping out with online Christmas orders again for The Courtyard Dairy – purveyors of excellent cheese.

Hub again is the focus of my time. Starting to organise some workshops and in discussion with several businesses and charities about using it for a range of events.

More local people coming in to the hub to do short interviews to promote their groups and events on Dales Radio.

Been on a very useful Institute of Fundraising course which has given us things to think about and some more grants to apply for. Considering doing the Introduction to Fundraising course with IoF next year.

Settle group are still meeting to discuss ULab course and now into the stage of protyping new ideas.

Settle Timebank getting more active and one task for this month is to revamp leaflets and info.

Off on hols to Anglesey for a week which will be a nice break and a chance to catch up with friends who live there. After the creativity retreat last month I plan to do some sewing while I am away 🙂

A lot of upheaval at home with new windows being fitted so some serious tidying required before and after.

Hub is again taking up a lot of time but in a good way. Drop-in session are busy and we have some grants come in too. Several meetings with charities interested in hiring the hub for outreach or training sessions.

Local group still meeting weekly to discuss U.Lab course

Fantastic weekend on Settle Stories Creativity Retreat at Airton Quaker Meeting House. Only about 8 miles form home but decided to stay over and really get away from things. A great group of people and inspiring teachers Sita Brand and Pete Armstrong. Lots of meditation and mindfulness and ended up doing all sorts like story writing, poetry, art that I haven’t done since school.  More info about Settle Stories and what they do here http://www.settlestories.org.uk/

Books..   Atul Gawande – Being Mortal – an extraordinary book that I think everyone should read. We are all going to die sometime so why do we try and avoid talking about it!

Also read H is for Hawk by Helen MacDonald for book group which I really enjoyed.

Yet again.. the new hub is taking up most of my time.. but in a good way.  Lots of budget planning, grant proposals and networking to spread the word. We have got a grant towards our start up costs from a local councillor and waiting to hear about 2 others.

U.Lab: Transforming Business, Society and Self course has started again so we have a local hub meeting in Settle to do group coaching and watch webinars together. More info on Otto Scharmer website http://www.ottoscharmer.com and U.Lab course is available for free on edx.org.

Had a lovely few days in Llandudno with hubby for our wedding anniversary.. weather was horrid but a great break 🙂

Not been so good at regular journaling .. but not beating myself up about it.

Something must be in the air.. I have 3 copies of Overwhelmed by Brigid Schulte and it seems most of my friends are in real need of it so all copies lent out at the minute.. a must read for any woman juggling too many things.

Yet again the month has been dominated by the new community and business hub and lots of meetings and calls with various people who might be interested in using the space.

We are now officially registered as a Community Interest Company.

Lots of business planning and discussions about grant proposals.

Open Day coming up soon on Thursday 1st September 12 noon til 6pm -anyone is welcome to come in a have a chat and a cup of tea.

Will be open 10-4 on Tuesdays and 12-5 on Fridays for general drop-in and info about Timebank and Dales Radio. It will be available for room hire, workshops, charity and community info events and hotdesking at other times.

Getting ready for a new round of the course U.Lab : Transforming Business, Society and Self -starts next month but a 90 minute intro course available now on edx.org.

We will have a group doing the U.Lab course together in Settle and will meet for group coaching and live webinars. The new community and business hub has a range of books, DVDs and other U.Lab resources that can be borrowed.

Signed up for a Mark Silver Course – The Heart of Business.  The focus is bringing personal integrity and spiritual values into all aspects of business and making a living doing what you are passionate about.  I did his Heart of Money course earlier in the year and got a huge amount out of it. Really looking forward to it and very aware there are probably a lot of overlaps between U.Lab and Heart of Business so will be good to be doing them at the same time. The month has pretty much been dominated by working with two friends to get company registration paperwork ready and gradually moving in to our new community and business hub.

Huge thanks to local folk who have been very generous with furniture donations for our new hub 🙂

Busy getting ready for district council elections next month so been sorting out election leaflets and delivering them

Having a week on a mindfulness retreat in deepest Cornwall

Doing Dales Radio interviews as a roving reporter and we will be doing lots of interviews and features on 29th April for Tour de Yorkshire cycle race and there are many events in Settle on the day which is the finish point of stage 1

Doing some broadcast journalist training with Dales Radio our new community radio station so I will be one of their local reporters – so also means a steep learning curve on audio recording and editing!

I have decided to stand for the Green Party in the upcoming Craven Distrcit Council elections in May. So need to get started on my leaflets.. and rope in some helpers to deliver them..

Focus this month is doing some online courses.. I have ended up doing 3 at once which is a bit of a commitment but I am loving them all for different reasons.. so not much time for anything else for a few weeks.

Really enjoying the live ‘Heart of Money’ course with Mark Silver  bringing a Sufi approach to business and money – see  Heart of Business for more about  Mark and his work.

Continuing with the quirky Great eCourse Adventure and planning to  create a simple ecourse about wild foods and medicines.

And.. a last minute decision to sign up for Tad Hargraves The Meantime 30 Day Challenge. I’m a big fan of his – if you are a hippy, therapist, artist, musician or permaculture farmer who struggles to promote yourself then check out his website Marketing for Hippies.

Working with some local holistic therapists to help them learn to use simple free tools like Mailchimp more effectively for their businesses.

Discovered a friend had accidentally deleted all of my wild food photos and recipes from a dropbox folder we shared ..they were not backed up anywhere else as thought it was safe there. So foraging ebook plans will be delayed. I have been very calm and philosophical about it.. so all this mindfulness and journal writing clearly is helping!
